The Task of Critiquing

Critiquing can be a great big task for writers. Writers can sometimes become overwhelmed by the amount of work they need to complete. So, we must always be reminded to be kind to them when we critique them.

At the same time, we must tell them what it is they need to know! However harsh, we may have to be. Harsh by what we must tell not by how hard we tell them. Often times, we can say things and say them harshly but be gentle with how we tell them the news.

This is the message I often try to tell those that come to my meetings. We must tell them the things they need to hear to make them a better writer! Still, we need to gentle with how we say it!

God speaks to us in the same manner. He knows just how to knock at our door and beat the door down when we need it. Nevertheless, the tone He uses is always one of love! He loves to encourage us to do better at what we must do! He wants the best from us.

Nevertheless, the words we use must be softly spoken! It is hard to critique the way we need to really critique at times. That is what other people are for. The more opinions we get from one another the better writer we become. We want to have that acknowledgement of it is over and we have made it. However, in order for us to get there can be a journey for us. The best advice I can give you is to learn everything you can from your mistakes. Try and try again until you have reached the “Excellent” mark!

October 19, 2209

Today, we held our first writer's critique session. What a blast it was! I only had one person that showed up for the first meeting. However, I do believe the scripture is very clear in Mathew 18:20 "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."

So. it doesn't really matter how many we have as long as God's presence is there! We enjoyed opening our time with a word of prayer as we bathed it in God's hand and in our hearts! We honored that time and allowed Him to move us in the direction of helping one another with the work at hand.

We meet from 2pm.-4pm. at the 103rd St Library here on Jacksonville's Westside of town. We will be continuing to meet on Monday's in the upcoming months at the same time. We hope to see there!
